It’s been over a month since I last wrote here, and I don’t really have an excuse. I think it’s because I keep coming up with blog topics that are kind of hard to research and/or comply with. Someone recently told me that it actually slows down your boiling water if you add salt to it first – I always have added salt in the beginning because I thought it sped up the process. Does anyone know what the truth is? I’m too lazy to look it up, but I would really like to know whether I’m wasting a ton of energy trying to heat up salty water all the time.
I’ve also been thinking about greening up my cat’s litter situation, but I’m totally hooked on Fresh Step (which is clay-based and not at all green, plus it costs about $10 a box). I’m not at all interested in potty-training my cats, (more…)
I just thought I’d post an update about my mini greenhouse experiment. I planted lettuce, broccoli, oat grass (as a winter cover crop) and a transplanted rosemary bush in the greenhouse earlier in the fall (here’s the original post about it), and today the rosemary and grass are doing quite well, but unfortunately the broccoli is pretty non-existent and the lettuce leaves are only about an inch tall.
So far I would call it a semi-success, because the space inside the greenhouse has stayed warm enough to sustain plant life. I’ve had to open up the greenhouse on warmer days to air it out, because the damp weather has caused it to get a little moldy in there, but overall it’s been very low-maintenance.
And, as you can see, my cats are pretty fond of it.
I don’t know about your cats, but my little ones just LOVE doing crafts. Finger painting, knitting, making little cabins out of popsicle sticks, you name it – they’ve tried it!
And I’ve got a great project that your kitties are sure to enjoy. It’s called the catnip birdie:
This is a fun one that my youngest, Denzel, and I invented over the weekend. (more…)
